Spaarne Gasthuis supplies relief goods for ‘war medicine’ to Ukraine

The Spaarne Gasthuis supplies medical supplies to Ukraine. This concerns items that can be used, among other things, in ‘war medicine’, an employee of the hospital tells Haarlem105.

The hospital has already delivered goods to Ukraine on several occasions. To this end, the Spaarne Gasthuis is in contact with the ‘Ukraine needs help’ foundation, which in turn works together with the embassy and the Red Cross.

“After the war broke out, many nurses and doctors had the feeling that they had to do something. They all went to have a look at their ward and that has been collected,” says Marloes Bosman, coordinator of the campaign at the hospital.

The goods that will be delivered include medical devices, stretchers, disposable products such as mouth caps and protective coats, pads for childbirth and surgical instruments. “You also have to think of trauma materials such as pins and screws for broken legs to be able to perform such operations. You notice that there is a need for war medicine,” says Bosman.

Durability

The contact with the aid foundation was once started by the Spaarne Gasthuis in the context of sustainability. For example, the hospital supplies leftover items once a quarter to organizations that need it. “Material that is no longer needed or that has been written off is then sent to another country so that it can be given a second life,” says Bosman.

Now there was an extra request from Ukraine, on which hospital employees immediately got to work. “Last Saturday there was intensive contact with the foundation to which we donate and the question was raised whether we still had anything lying around.”
