SP makes a bid for the next elections in Aa and Hunze

The Socialist Party wants to participate in the municipal elections in Aa and Hunze in the long term. Members of the SP have therefore started a working group to set up a local branch.

The SP has not previously participated in the municipal elections in the Drenthe river municipality. The party already tried it sixteen years ago, but an adult department of its own never got off the ground. Members from Aa and Hunze still fall under the department in Assen, together with members from Tynaarlo and Noordenveld.

‘Animo for the SP

Working group founder Leo Martinus from Annen thinks that his party has enough support in Aa and Hunze to seriously participate in the next elections. “In the previous parliamentary elections, more than 1,200 people in Aa and Hunze voted for the SP. So there is enthusiasm here to vote for our party,” says Martinus.

The next municipal elections will be held in 2026 and according to Martinus, the SP would like to participate. It is not yet clear how feasible that wish is. There are no intended candidates for the city council yet, although the party is taking positions on local issues.

Green policy

According to Martinus, the SP is particularly committed to preserving nature. “We find the felling of trees along the road between Rolde and Anderen insane in this time of climate meeting. The SP had never agreed to the felling of trees in Nooitgedacht and we are concerned about the new resort at Gasselte, which we believe will be under enormous pressure. will give to the environment.”

In the coming period, the working group wants to show itself more in the municipality. According to Martinus, there will be protests, especially against felling trees. In addition, the working group is looking for party members and potential candidates for the elections.
