Southeast Drenthe swimming pools are warm thanks to ‘industrial water’

Swimming in water that comes from the industrial GETEC Park in Emmen? It is understandable that you are scratching your head for a while. But it certainly can’t hurt. And it also saves three swimming pools in the municipality of Emmen in the wallet.

From time to time, the tractor drives a tanker to and from the GETEC business park in Emmen. Each time, the hose, coupled to a tinny pipe system, is filled to the brim with water. Each filling is good for 16 cubic meters. The tractor then sets sail for the swimming pools in Emmer-Compascuum, Erica and Weiteveen to discharge the water into the pool. Wait, industrial water as bathing water. Will people soon not dissolve when they take a dip?

“Absolutely not,” laughs director Hendrik van der Ploeg of the GETEC Park. “This is about spotlessly clean water that has been heated to a temperature of about 360 degrees. As a result, salts, minerals and bacteria are completely absent. You cannot drink it, but mixed with swimming pool water, it is extremely suitable for a refreshing dip.”

Reporter Rien Kort was at the outdoor pool in Erica this afternoon:
