The Transfermarkt database has one more competition: The Southeast Asian Games, the Southeast Asian counterpart to the global Olympic Games, can now be called up. On Sunday, host nation Vietnam won the men’s football tournament of the 31st edition of the SEA Games (South East Asian Games), which were moved from late 2021 to May 2022 due to the corona pandemic, with a narrow margin of 1-0 against record winner Thailand (to the news ).
The competition is particularly popular in Southeast Asia and attracts millions of viewers to the stadiums and in front of the screens. Like the Olympic Games, it is an under-23 tournament. However, three “over age” players are allowed. The SEA Games, which were held for the first time in 1959 and take place every two years, now include 40 sports – from football and archery to e-sports. In recent years, both women’s and men’s football have been dominated by Thailand, who are also record winners of the men’s tournament with 16 titles.
