2022 is an anniversary year for the Beach Boys: In 1962 the band signed their first record deal. 60 years later, the five members can look back on a successful career. Celebrating with a retrospective called Sounds Of Summer: The Very Best Of The Beach Boys, which includes 80 tracks and remastered songs.
The special edition will be released on June 17th. In addition, new music videos, a lyric video series and another box set are planned for the fall.
The Beach Boys were formed in Hawthorne, California in 1961. The band originally consisted of the three Wilson brothers Brian, Carl and Dennis, their cousin Mike Love and their school friend Al Jardine. The career of the five began when they were teenagers.
One year the anniversary of the Beach Boys is celebrated
The band is grateful for the anniversary: ”It’s hard to believe that it’s been 60 years […]. In 1962 we were still children and we could never have imagined where our music would take us.” The anniversary is “a huge milestone” and the joy of “presenting even more to our incredible fans over the next twelve months” is great .
Greatest Hits Collection with 80 tracks
The release of the greatest hits collection “Sounds Of Summer: The Very Best Of The Beach Boys” is planned for June. The album was originally released once before, in 2003.
The reissue features “24 new mixes, including two stereo premieres, as well as 22 new and improved stereo mixes, some of which feature the latest in digital stereo extraction technology.”
In addition, the original track list has been expanded by 50 titles. The album contains a total of 80 tracks, including classics such as “California Girls”, “I Get Around” and “Surfer Girl”, as well as other tracks such as “All Summer Long” and “Disney Girls”.
Boxset also available as Super Deluxe Edition
The collection will be available digitally, as a 3CD soft pack and as a super deluxe edition 6LP vinyl box set. The latter in two variants – as a standard set or as a numbered, limited version with a rainbow foil slipcase and four collectible lithographs. All physical formats come with a booklet with new liner notes and updated photos.
The 30-track 2003 version is re-released, mixed in Dolby Atmos, as a single CD or double gatefold LP. Pre-orders for all versions are already possible. As a foretaste of the special edition, the new stereo mix of “Good Vibrations” Already available to stream and download.
Music videos and documentary in progress
A series of “innovative new music videos” is also in the works, according to the press release. In addition, new lyric videos and visuals are said to bring the Beach Boys’ songs “into the modern video age”.
More albums by the band are set to be re-released in a deluxe set in the fall. The Beach Boys are also currently involved in the production of a feature-length documentary. In addition, a “tribute special, prestigious exhibitions and events, unique brand partnerships and much more” are in the works to celebrate the 60th anniversary.
