According to organizers, around 20,000 people demonstrated at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin against Putin’s war of aggression against Ukraine. Numerous artists performed and sang for peace.
“Sound of Peace” was announced by the organizers as “Europe’s largest musical rally” against the Ukraine war. The police assumed 15,000 spectators.
One of the speakers on stage was Natalia Klitschko, wife of the mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, who is currently living in Berlin after fleeing. “What is happening to my country now is terrible,” said Natalia Klitschko. “It is important to see the masses that come together here. It is important to see that the whole world stands for Ukraine”.
Performing musicians included Marius Müller-Westernhagen, David Garrett, Clueso, Michael Patrick Kelly, Fury in the Slaughterhouse, In Extremo, Mia, Mine, Peter Maffay, Revolverheld, Sarah Connor, Silbermond The BossHoss and Zoe Wees.
Westernhagen sings “Freedom”:
I really like reading your essays, feature guest articles, writer interviews, but #SoundOfPeace is the first major cultural event with an impact in years. Because only when Mark Forster, Sarah Connor & Co stand on a stage does it come #peacemovement in the mainstream. pic.twitter.com/2GKpgzSKjF
