California Soul –known for the song Marlena Shaw has died at the age of 81. Remembered as the voice of soul, blues and jazz, Shaw’s passing was told by his daughter Marla Shaw in a Facebook video he posted on Friday. The daughter did not tell the mother’s cause of death in the video.
Shaw’s interpretation of The Messengers California Soul – song has shaped pop culture for its part. The song has been heard among other things The Italian Job in the movie, The Lincoln Lawyer TV series and Grand Theft Auto V game. R&b star’s mega song has also ended up as a sample of several hip hop songs. Among others, The Game, Jay Rock and Xzhibit have used the catchy melody in their songs.
Shaw, who started his career in the 69s, has other hit songs Feel Like Making Love, Lovin’ You Was Like A Party and Go Away Little Boy.
