“Sophie Hilbrand, you’re just talking bullsh*t on national television!”

Khalid Kasem and Sophie Hilbrand just flat out lied to the cameras of both RTL Boulevard and Shownieuws, says media critic Victor Vlam. “Bullsh*t!”

The grapes are sour at Khalid & Sophie now that it’s starting to look more and more like the talk show is about to start its last season. According to the AD, Eva Jinek has simply been scheduled to provide NPO 1’s eve talk show from September 2024. Three months on and off? No, just the whole TV season!

‘Bullsh*t’

Khalid Kasem and Sophie Hilbrand are really very pissed off about that and were just publicly breezing in front of every camera that was put in front of them during the NPO season presentation. None of this would ever happen in a good company, Sophie grumbled. She clearly demands for all her young editorial staff.

Eh, those editorial staff who already hop to a different program every few weeks? Yes that one! You just can’t let them dangle, says Sophie. Or, as the razor-sharp media critic Victor Vlam summarizes it: “Bullsh*t.”

Never certainty

Victor tells in his podcast The Communicados that Sophie just has to be honest. “They don’t throw it on ‘we want to know’, no: ‘Do it for those editors! Those sympathetic, friendly, young editors who just want to know where they stand.’ I have to tell you very honestly, when I hear things like that I always immediately think: bullsh*t.”

It really doesn’t make sense, he says. “Because with most programs you don’t know a year in advance whether it will get a new season. That is a certainty that you almost never have as a talk show editor, as an editor in the television world at all. And besides that: those editors also move from one program to another.”

Over to Jinek

If Khalid & Sophie is exchanged for Jinek, then the editors can largely go along, Victor continues. “That can be done effortlessly. So this is not for the editors. Bullsh*t. What really matters is that they just want to know where they stand. That’s what they care about.”

And that is quite logical, he thinks. “I think it is completely right that you want to know, because I do think that the NPO lets them dangle in a pretty scandalous way. You can also see Jinek’s transfer as a vote of no confidence towards Khalid & Sophie, because she takes their place. It is clear that the NPO wants something different at that time.”

Informed

Khalid & Sophie must either stop or move, it seems. “Anyway, it will mean that it will get a different status. You have to inform those people about that. It is now a month and a half after Eva Jinek’s switch. It seems to me fair when you say to Khalid & Sophie: ‘Guys, these are our future plans with you.’”

They’ve had enough time to think about it, Victor concludes. “I do think this really casts a shadow over Khalid & Sophie’s season start. This is just really bad publicity. This is a dark cloud over the new season. This is not funny. From a PR point of view, this is not very useful for the NPO.”
