The US Open is just around the corner. Time for Alexander Zverev and Co. to travel to the Big Apple and get used to the atmosphere. Before the last big tennis tournament of the year, however, the Olympic champion was forced by his girlfriend Sophia Thomalla to go on a trip that he would have liked to have done without.
On her Instagram channel, Thomalla showed some pictures and videos from her visit with Zverev to the New York Museum of Modern Art.
It is clear at first glance: Modern art is not at all the tennis star’s thing.
Thomalla said to Zverev about one of the exhibits: “Sorry, but I think it just looks good.” Zverev’s dry answer: “Do you have a tit too, or what?! There’s a line in the middle, that’s it!”
To another picture that shows Zverev scratching his head in the middle of a large exhibition room, Thomalla wrote: “Lost, season 12”. Another recording of the Olympic champion in the museum provided them with the line: “That’s called forcing!” Captioning a short video clip, she said: “He’s thinking about being an artist in his next life.”
Tennis star Alexander Zverev seeded number 12 at the US Open
Small consolation for Zverev: The museum was just one of many stopovers that the couple made in the Big Apple. On other recordings, the tennis star was in a much better mood.
Zverev and Thomalla still have a few days to enjoy the sights in New York. But work is already calling for the Olympic champion in just six days. Then the last Grand Slam tournament of the year begins.
Zverev is considered one of the secret favorites at the US Open. In the seeding list published on Tuesday, the man from Hamburg is in twelfth place.
The Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz is top seeded ahead of the Serbian Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev from Russia.
