So far, anyone who wanted a PS5 had to keep their eyes open and, if in doubt, be very quick. Even the large electronics stores only got smaller deliveries that were immediately sold out. That’s why many PlayStation fans still look down the drain when it comes to the next-gen console.
The reason given for the lack of availability was always the delivery bottlenecks, mainly caused by Corona. Above all, the required semiconductor chips were and are affected, which is also causing problems for other sectors. The prices for graphics cards, for example, are still astronomical. After it was said in April that the resulting PlayStation 5 shortage could continue in 2024, a statement by Jim Ryan, Sony CEO, gave many hope.

Sony wants to significantly increase PS5 production
Ryan told investors that an easing of supply chain issues is expected. That’s why a significant increase in the production level is planned, according to Ryan. “Things are definitely improving.” For comparison: In the last fiscal year, users were happy about 11.8 million consoles. By 2022/23 there should already be 18 million units. That would indeed be good news, since then the prices around the PlayStation could finally relax.
It remains to be seen whether more fluid supply chains or possibly new processors are responsible for the planned increase in production.
