Sonja Bakker has had a huge tattoo on her hip. “The tattoo artist here was amazed when I went for such a large one for my first tattoo,” she says.
Sonja Bakker’s life seems to have changed quite a bit since she has the rather wild Barry van Suijdam by her side. They lead a nice unbridled and turbulent life in Ibiza. A life that the talking egg cake, in its own words, could never lead in the Netherlands, where it has been under fire for quite some time.
Clip in extensions
Sonja only feels free in Ibiza. “It’s so wonderful to have my clip in extensions take off and hop on a mountain bike. I wouldn’t do that so quickly in the Netherlands, because then I feel more vulnerable. What if people comment on that?” she says in Beau Monde.
Sonja doesn’t think about that in Ibiza, she says. “And I am much more relaxed. A friend recently said, “Son, you look ten years younger.” That’s how it feels.”
mega tattoo
Being crazy in Ibiza has also led to Sonja now walking around with a huge tattoo. “The tattoo artist here was amazed when I went for such a large one for my first tattoo – on my hip. Usually people opt for a small one. But why not? And who cares what people have to say about it?”
She is now disgusted by the Netherlands. “We had a bad time in the Netherlands with the plagiarism thing. Four recipes did not go well and we corrected that immediately. But it went on and on… And I was too tired to fight back. Everything I did or said was bad, my head had to roll.”
Angry Barry
In addition to that ‘plagiarism thing’, Sonja has also been in the news because of her abusive boyfriend Barry. He was sentenced to two weeks in prison and 60 hours of community service for the assault on Sonja.
Now she says: “We had an argument once and people kept nagging and sucking about it. What are we doing? I thought. No, that’s not the only reason I left the Netherlands. But it did play a part: after fifteen years of Boss Lady I feel too big and too good for those strange accusations.”
‘Done with Baker’
Private boss Evert Sankrediets thinks that Sonja wallows in self-pity. “That indignation never comes across as very sympathetic. Why give an interview to Beau Monde again, so that everything is brought up again? She really does that herself,” he says in the podcast Strictly Private.
It particularly bothers him that Sonja says that the plagiarism riot would only concern four recipes. “Oh, there were quite a few more. You have not spent a hefty amount on settlements for nothing. I always find it difficult when people clean their streets. Just say, “That was stupid, done.” If you make it this way, maybe you shouldn’t give an interview at all.”
