A comic book about lyrics by renowned songwriter Drs. P. You don’t think of it, but Frits Smid from Beverwijk made it and is successful with it. The strip about the different songs is already in its third printing.
‘De Dodenrit’, ‘Turnups and Lof, Salsify and Leek’ and of course ‘de Veerpont’ are the best known songs by PhD researcher P, pseudonym of Heinz Hermann Polzer.
The language virtuoso, who died in 2015, was loved for his original lyrics. He contained these in catchy melodies (‘Back and forth’). Frits Smid had been an admirer for years, but the corona crisis had to come in handy to make his plans a reality. “Then I finally had time for it,” he says.
Smith wasn’t sure what to think of the finished product, but critics raved about his comic. “Nice”, he says soberly about the favorable reactions. “Maybe there will even be a fourth printing. That would be nice.”
And a nice tribute to Drs. P, who can no longer read it himself. Smid: “What would he have thought of it? He has also made comics himself, so I think he could have appreciated it.”
