In times of war and climate crisis, Heinz Rudolf Kunze (66) wants to address problems with his music and at the same time give comfort.

“I hope that my pieces work like medicinal herbs and alleviate some worries a bit,” said the singer and composer of the German Press Agency. For Kunze, this includes addressing war, crises and fears. “The pop music, which only has the rose-colored glasses on, doesn’t calm me down a bit as a listener and only makes me more aggressive.”

“We live in tough, dark times,” said the German rocker (“Your is my whole heart”), who looks back on a more than 40-year stage career. “When I go for a walk with my dog, I meet many neighbors who tell me at the garden fence: ‘I can actually only sleep if I take sleeping pills’.” Kunze lives near Hanover.

“This tension under which we all live in this country, on this globe, runs through several songs,” said the 66-year-old about his new album (“Kannen vor Lachen”), which was released on Friday (May 26) appears. “Hold me tight”, for example, is about the general diffuse fear of war. The title “Let’s do what we can” asks the question: “How can I best get through these times?”.
