Machine Gun Kelly released the song “Taurus” for the film of the same name, which is named after his zodiac sign, on Wednesday (November 23). The film was released on November 18, although it premiered on February 13 at the 72nd Berlinale. “Taurus” is a semi-autobiographical film about the life of a rap star – starring Machine Gun Kelly.
“Taurus” is a melancholic rap song with rock elements and deals with mental health and follows the plot of the film. In addition to Colson Baker, as the musician’s real name is, Naomi Wild is also represented on the song. She is not only part of the project as a feature, but also plays in the film and takes on the role of “Lena”. Colson Baker’s role is named “Cole” and is based on his first name. His current partner Megan Fox also has a small role in the film – as “Cole’s” ex-girlfriend.
The film is written and directed by Tim Sutton, who directed the 2021 western The Last Son. Also starring there was Machine Gun Kelly, who says of the current film “Taurus” and the director’s work: “I trust his eye and his strange sense of letting scenes run longer than they should because the awkwardness that you feel watching it almost mirrors what real life is like.”
Plot
Rapper Cole navigates through a mix of alienation, numbness and narcissism after shattering almost all relationships with other people and leaving his daughter hanging along with everyone else after the breakup. Back from a tour he is looking for inspiration for a new song. His assistant Ilana (Maddie Hasson) tries to keep him and everything around the rapper together. Between recordings in the studio, alternately productive and destructive encounters with other musicians, as well as meetings, interviews, paparazzi, drug dealers and prostitutes, the musician loses himself.
Most recently, Machine Gun Kelly released MAINSTREAM SELLOUT (2022), which earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Album in 2023. The musician announced that he would release another album this year. His latest rap album is HOTEL DIABLO (2019), on which he previously sang with Naomi Wild for the song “Glass House” worked together.
