Hope seems to have disappeared that Ron Brandsteder’s partially paralyzed son will ever be able to move his arm again. “We have searched for years for the best doctors, but no one can do anything.”

It was a major tragedy in 2017 for Bob Brandsteder, Ron’s 37-year-old son and Rick’s brother: after a hard fall from his stairs he became partially paralyzed. The feeling in his left arm suddenly disappeared completely. After weeks in the hospital, he decided to temporarily live with his parents.

Eternally paralyzed

Yvonne Brandsteder, Bob’s mother, said at the time that he simply had to be taken care of. “Mentally too. He had to give it a place. Now he lives in his own house again. And that wasn’t the house with the stairs. Ron and I bought him another apartment. A house in the area where his brother Rick also lives.”

How is Bob doing now? Yvonne says in the latest Story: “Physically, little has changed in his situation. He still cannot move his left arm. Through physiotherapy he can do a little more, but the paralysis remains. Of course, we have been looking for the best doctors in recent years, but there is no one who can do anything for him…”

Temporarily at home

While Bob now lives on his own again, Yvonne has now taken her other son back into her home: Rick. He is struggling with an addiction, which he is trying to kick. And living in Amsterdam doesn’t make that easy.

Yvonne: “Yes, Rick lives here. He wants to sell his house as quickly as possible. In the meantime he lives here, looking for another home. He also regularly flies to Spain. I’m not going to say what he’s doing there. That’s up to him. But I can say that Rick is doing very well.”
