Son (25) stabs mother (43) to death with 53 stab wounds: six years and TBS ordered

A 43-year-old woman was gruesomely stabbed to death in Asten last year. Her son, Jaebets B. (25) immediately admitted that he had done that. Out of nowhere he grabbed a knife from the kitchen drawer and started stabbing her like crazy wherever he could hit her. After 53 stabs with a large carving knife she was dead. The public prosecutor demanded in the court in Den Bosch on Wednesday that Jaebets goes to prison for six years and that he also receives TBS with compulsory treatment.

Jaebets B. almost had to duck when he was led into the courtroom through the side door this Wednesday morning. The man is enormous and at the same time very introverted. He spoke little and often so softly that the chairman of the court always had to ask him if he wanted to speak a little louder.

In the room, which was completely full of relatives, there was a lot of sadness about the death of the woman, who had four children and was also a grandmother. But, there was also a remarkable amount of support for the young man. The family has forgiven the son, they said, out of their faith. He can now spread that faith in prison, they hoped. His aunts already gave Jaebets a Bible for the cell. And they indicated that they hope that the court will decide that he will be treated as quickly as possible. They are afraid that Jaebets will make more mistakes if he is not treated.

Confused
In a haze, Jaebets killed his mother on the late evening of December 9 last year in her own home on Klaproosstraat in Asten. There was no discussion about this in court. Jaebets was on his way to his mother late that day to talk to her. He always did that when he was confused.

And those conversations often turned into discussions and arguments, because Jaebets was not an easy boy. Research has shown that he has a mild intellectual disability, has delusions and, for example, hears voices. However, out of shame he never sought help for this.

He felt that his mother no longer loved him and that he should not have been born, he thought. Since his father’s departure, that feeling has become increasingly stronger and he feels he can no longer meet his mother’s expectations. It hurt Jaebets that his mother kept comparing him to his father.

Carving knife from the kitchen drawer
Jaebets had a bad day on December 9, he explained. He was angry and sad. When he walked in through the back door around ten past eleven at night, his mother was on the phone with his sister. He did not find the greeting cordial and it confirmed his feeling that his mother no longer loved him. Are you my mother, Jabets wondered. He suddenly grabbed a large carving knife from the kitchen drawer and started stabbing his mother.

Jaebets stabbed her no fewer than 53 times as she fled from the kitchen into the hallway. Some stab wounds were as deep as four inches. The youngest son (13), who was upstairs playing on his Playstation, heard the commotion, came down the stairs and saw his eldest brother hitting their mother while she shouted that she really loved him.

When the mother was dead, Jaebets put the huge knife in her hand to make it look like suicide. Then he went upstairs, hugged his brother and sat against the wall in one of the rooms.

Little brother jumped out of the window
His young brother was terrified and jumped out of the window and cycled to a friend. His father then called the police, who quickly went to the house in Klaproosstraat and found the dead woman at the front door. They found Jaebets upstairs, completely covered in blood and unresponsive.

Everyone agreed during the hearing that Jaebets urgently needs help. And the experts think so too. Their advice is TBS with compulsory treatment. And Jaebets also thinks TBS with compulsory care is a good idea to work on himself.

The public prosecutor nevertheless demanded a prison sentence of six years in addition to the TBS treatment. She believes that Jaebets also deserves a prison sentence, because he is not considered completely incompetent.

Jaebets was resigned to the entire trial. He takes medication for depression and occasionally seemed somewhat absent during the hearing. He also did not respond to family members who contacted him at the end of the hearing.

In two weeks, on December 6, he will hear what sentence the court considers appropriate.
