Jaebet B. (25) from Deurne has to go to prison for four years because he stabbed his 43-year-old mother to death. He will also receive a TBS with compulsory treatment. The court in Den Bosch ruled this on Wednesday. Out of nowhere, Jaebet started stabbing frantically wherever he could hit her. After 53 stabs with a large carving knife she was dead.
The court states that the mother’s last moments must have been very anxious and painful. Jaebet stabbed her many times in a haze on the late evening of December 9 last year in her own house on Klaproosstraat in Asten. The young man was on his way to talk to his mother late that day. He always did that when he was confused.
And those conversations often turned into arguments and arguments, because Jaebet was not an easy boy. Research has shown that he has a mild intellectual disability, has delusions and, for example, hears voices. Out of shame he never sought help for this.
No warm greeting
When he walked into his mother’s house around ten past eleven at night, she was on the phone with his sister. He did not find the greeting cordial and it confirmed his feeling that his mother no longer loved him. Are you my mother, Jaebet wondered.
He suddenly grabbed a large carving knife from the kitchen drawer and started stabbing his mother. Jaebet stabbed her no fewer than 53 times as she fled from the kitchen into the hallway. Some stab wounds were as deep as four inches.
Youngest brother
The youngest son (13 at the time), who was upstairs playing on his Playstation, heard the commotion, came down the stairs and saw his eldest brother injuring their mother.
When the mother was dead, Jaebet went upstairs, hugged his brother and sat against the wall in one of the rooms. However, his young brother was terrified and jumped out of the window and cycled to a friend. His father then called the police, who quickly went to the house in Klaproosstraat and found the dead woman at the front door. They found Jaebet upstairs, completely covered in blood and unresponsive.
‘Treat quickly’
The woman had four children and was also a grandmother. The family, who are originally from Congo, have forgiven the young perpetrator, they said, out of their faith. They already indicated during the hearing that they hope that the court will decide that their cousin will be treated as quickly as possible. They think that Jaebet will make more mistakes if he is not treated.
The court agreed. But because Jaebet is not completely incompetent, according to experts, he will also receive four years in prison. However, the court’s advice is that his treatment starts after two years in prison.
Two weeks ago, the justice department had demanded six years in prison and TBS with compulsory treatment.
