Throughout Belgium, an average of 64% less was harvested in 2024. In West Flanders it concerns 30% less. And that has everything to do with the location at the North Sea. But what about the quality? Nadine Fiems, Sommelier: “It has been a very good wine year. The quantity is less, but the quality grows over the years. I can certainly confirm that. Very tasty wines.”
In 2024, only 1.2 million liters were produced compared to 3.4 million the year before. But 2025 will be a record year. Bram Lemmens, chairman VVS: “There will be a lot of wine. We will probably go to the 5 million liters, for the first time in the history of Belgium.”
Twenty years ago there was 75 hectares of vineyards in Belgium. Today that is almost 1,000 ha.
