Volgens Somers zijn de cyberaanvallen op Antwerpen en Diest “niet de eerste, maar ook zeker niet de laatste.” Hij verwijst daarbij dat hackers vaak guarded at rusty moments such as feedays, weekends and vacations om toe te slaan. “Het is not uitgesloten dat vandaag al in other stedelijke digital infrastructure is broken, maar dat de criminelen guarded op het juiste moment om alles plat te leggen”, aldus de Vlaamse minister.
