Some of the Berlin clinic and home employees are still unvaccinated

The majority of employees in clinics and nursing homes are vaccinated, but a small number are not yet. The State Office for Health is now checking the first registration data from the houses.

Despite facility-related corona vaccination, not all Berlin employees in hospitals and nursing homes are fully immunized.

“According to a survey by our administration, the vaccination rate for fully vaccinated people in Berlin hospitals is between 82 and 100 percent and for employees in care facilities it is around 90 percent,” said a spokesman for the health administration of the German Press Agency.

He has not yet given any information about possible entry bans and employment bans for non-vaccinated people. “The first reported numbers are currently being processed and checked by the Lageso,” said the spokesman. As soon as there is reliable data from the State Office for Health and Social Affairs (Lageso), the health administration will inform you.

In the houses of the state-owned Vivantes group, the vaccination rate is over 96 percent company-wide, a spokeswoman reported. “There have not yet been any bans on entry or anything similar from the responsible health authorities,” she said. Vivantes is also trying to convince employees who have not yet been vaccinated. Vaccination would continue to be offered.

The Charité can have a vaccination rate of 94 percent for medical staff. “In the current pandemic, we have taken care of the most seriously ill people in Berlin and Brandenburg, which means that many employees have directly experienced the consequences of a Covid 19 infection,” explained a spokesman.

For other employees, however, there were contraindications, for example, they could not be vaccinated. “Others have not yet submitted an up-to-date vaccination status due to a sabbatical, parental leave and other absences,” said the spokesman.

“The vast majority of our employees are fully immunized, and we are very grateful for this high level of vaccination,” said a Helios spokeswoman, without giving an exact number. According to a spokesman, the “overwhelming majority” of employees at the Sana Klinikum Lichtenberg have been fully vaccinated.

In the health and care sector, a facility-related corona vaccination has been mandatory since March 15th. In Berlin, the health authorities assess how much health care could be at risk in a certain area or district. If necessary, they can suspend proceedings against the unvaccinated. This means that these employees are not automatically banned from entering or working, but in certain cases they are allowed to continue working for the time being.

The Lageso checks the data from the facilities and passes on the information on the vaccination situation of the employees and on impending bottlenecks to the health authorities of the Berlin districts. The health authorities are requesting missing evidence from the employees. At the same time, they help them to find vaccination advice and vaccination options.

However, the Berlin hospital association is in favor of a broader obligation to vaccinate: “In the future, health care must not reach its limits – and hospital staff must not continue to be overburdened. That’s why we rely on everything that offers protection – and thus in principle also on a general obligation to vaccinate,” explained Managing Director Marc Schreiner.
