Solo exhibition Nkanga in St. John’s hospital

She is known worldwide for her installations, sculptures, drawings and impressive tapestries. Above all, Otobong Nkanga wants to reconnect with the earth and our feelings.

Twenty tons of white boulders have been poured into the impressive colonnade of the historic St. John’s Hospital. Otobong Nkanga has brought together her installations, sculptures and tapestries with the old masters.

Otobong Nkanga goes in search of mental and emotional healing. Immediately there is also the link with this hospital, a house of healing. These carpets refer to minerals with healing powers and in the cycle of life, what dies gives nourishment to new life.

Underneath the Shade we Lay Grounded or under the shade we are grounded, can still be seen until the end of September in the Sint-Janshospitaal in Bruges.
