Solana co-founder describes competitor Ethereum as "great"

The crypto blockchains Ethereum and Solana have been competing for some time. The founder of Solana is now adopting a conciliatory tone in view of recent developments.

• Endgame may switch from Ethereum to Solana
• Crypto community divided
• Solana co-founder tries de-escalation

The revision of the Maker Protocol “Endgame” is in the final phase. The decentralized autonomous organization, originally developed as an open-source application on the Ethereum blockchain, is now said to potentially bet on Ethereum’s biggest competitor, Solana. The protocol’s co-founder, Rune Christensen, said on X: “The final phase of Endgame is the launch of a native blockchain for makers, codenamed NewChain. This will make the ecosystem more secure and efficient. After doing some research, I believe that the Solana codebase should be considered as the foundation for NewChain,” the crypto expert wrote in a post on the former Twitter platform.

In his view, there are three reasons for switching to Solana. In a forum post, he cites “the technical quality of the Solana code base” as the first reason, which he describes as “highly optimized for running a singular, highly efficient blockchain”. A second reason in favor of the Solana ecosystem is the fact that it demonstrated its resilience by surviving the quake that followed the FTX collapse. And there is also a third reason in favor of Solana: namely that there are already examples of how the Solana code base has been split and adapted to function as app chains. Most notable in this regard is the Python project, which runs its own customized version of Solana as the backend.

Crypto community divided

However, a possible switch from Endgame from Ethereum to Solana was not well received by all commentators on X. Among Christensen’s contribution, there were numerous dissenting voices in favor of keeping Ethereum as a blockchain. Therefore, Solana’s co-founder, Anatoly Yakovenko, apparently felt compelled to smooth the waters between Ethereum and Solana supporters.

The fact that Maker considers Solana’s technology to be an asset for open source has nothing to do with the Solana mainnet or the decision between Solana and Ethereum, said Anatoly Yakovenko on X. In this context, he called on the Solana community to take this step not to take this as an opportunity to attack Ethereum.

“Ethereum is great,” the Solana co-founder added in another post. Solana was not built in a vacuum, a lot of the things that made Solana special were built on the foundation of Ethereum research and development, Yakovenko continued to try to act as a mediator between the two fan camps.

Whether the dispute between Solana and Ethereum fans can be settled with these words remains to be seen.
