The softball players of Olympia Haarlem have won the Dutch championship. Things got tense for a while, after the aggregate score had become 2-2 against Tex Town Tigers yesterday. At its own Sportpark Nol Houtkamp it was 3-2 for the Haarlem-squad in the deciding game. With that, trainer Stanley Doney said goodbye with the title.
Doney’s team didn’t start the game well, as the visitors from Enschede took the lead. Britt Vonk made the opening run in the third inning. The Haarlem-squad didn’t let themselves be disturbed and took the lead again in the same at bat.
Brenda Beers and Jesse van Aalst made the points: 2-1. It was Van Aalst, who extended the margin in the fifth inning: 3-1. Vonk made it exciting for a while by making it 3-2, but the win and the title were no longer in danger.
