Which a simple post on Instagram can’t lead to. Sofie (27) from Volkel asked who wanted to join her and two friends to pop festival Sziget in Hungary. Bastiaan (28) from Tilburg responded and the rest is history, because the spark already flew in the car.
Sofie was supposed to go to the festival with three friends in August, but one fell off, leaving a ticket. You can put this on Ticketswap, so that a complete stranger can take over the ticket, but you can also ask a complete stranger to come along on Instagram.
No sooner said than done. Sofie put the mail online and waited to see what would happen. Bastiaan was up for an adventure. Via via he read the post and responded that he wanted to join.
“You don’t know anything about each other, so you have a lot to talk about”
The car ride lasted 14 hours and during that time they got to know each other well. “You don’t know anything about each other so you have a lot to talk about,” says Bastiaan. “You can really start from scratch. We left at four in the morning and haven’t slept since, it was so much fun.”
They found that they had a lot in common. “We are both music lovers and play a lot of the same music. That’s why we often wanted to see the same artists on Sziget and then we went together,” says Bastiaan.
Sofie’s two friends went by plane to Hungary. He only met Bastiaan the night before, but they also clicked. They had been to Sziget before and turned out to be good guides on the spot. “The festival is more than just music, they told us to take a tour of the area as well and pointed us to all kinds of things that we should definitely do.”
“You also see each other at its worst, but it was still so much fun”
As much fun as camping and the festival were, the magic of the trip was that 14 hour car trip. “That marked the entire journey,” says Bastiaan. “You also see each other at their worst. Sometimes you are hungry, you are tired and you have to go to the toilet, but we could talk about anything. It was so much fun.”
They shared videos of their together on TikTok. Singing in the car with Justin Bieber, their followers could enjoy everything. When it turned out that they were followed by a lot of people, they laughed hard. “It was really funny. Our followers also really sympathized. For us it’s super nice to see it again now. That makes us really happy”.
