Social housing at Lidl location on Burgemeester De Dreuplein in Assen

Social housing will be built on the site of the former Lidl supermarket on Burgemeester De Dreuplein in Assen. Actium recently took over the location from Vastgoed Groningen.

The Lidl store has been empty for years. Project developer Vastgoed Groningen initially wanted to redevelop this place near the center. But the Asser housing association has its eye on the location. Actium does not only want to build in suburbs, such as in Kloosterveen. She also wants to realize more social housing in the city center.

The home lessor is already active in the city center, but new construction locations there are scarce. The former supermarket location, sandwiched between the Canal and the shopping centers Triade and Mercuriuscentrum, is an excellent opportunity to build in the center. Moreover, Actium already has rental properties in that area.

There is not yet a concrete construction plan for the vacant business premises, where a fire started last year. But Actium assumes an apartment complex with at least forty social rental homes. It is not yet known when the redevelopment of this location will start.
