The 35 so-called Regional Mobility Teams, which help people find a job, are now also accessible to all people entitled to social assistance and those not entitled to benefits, so also from before the corona pandemic. Ministers Van Gennip and Schouten of Social Affairs and Employment announced this today.
People who became unemployed (with or without benefits) in the corona pandemic could already apply for help to find work via a Regional Mobility Team (RMT). As of 1 June 2020, people entitled to social assistance and those who are not entitled to benefits from before 12 March 2020 can also receive additional help via the RMTs. Depending on the situation of the person reporting, the RMT looks at what is needed to find work again. This is done through free guidance, career advice, training or practical learning.
Minister Karien van Gennip:
The tension in the labor market is great. There are currently considerably more vacancies than people who can do this work. That is worrying, but the current situation also offers opportunities. That is why it is important that people who want it receive help with retraining for new work.
Minister Carola Schouten:
It is important that everyone gets the same opportunities. By actively helping the people who are now standing on the sidelines through the existing Regional Mobility Teams, we offer them a greater opportunity to participate in the labor market.
Help through the regional mobility teams
The Regional Mobility Teams are a partnership between municipalities, UWV, education, SBB, trade unions and employers’ organisations. The intention is to prevent unemployment or to make it last as short as possible, by offering the services that are necessary for the transition or transition to new work.
The services of the RMTs are aimed at people who have lost or are at risk of losing their job and who need extra support in finding new work, including self-employed entrepreneurs and young people. This now also includes social assistance recipients and non-benefit recipients.
