Social allowance, help for those in difficulty
Help provides the monthly payment of a variable contribution from year to year and established based on the cost of living and inflation revaluations. It is scheduled for 13 monthly payments and the amount for 2023 is equal to a maximum of 503.27 euros and, most likely, will not see major changes for 2024. To access the measure, it is not necessary to present the ISEE certification: the verification of the requirements takes place on the general income condition of the person making the request and of any spouses.
The calculation of the amount granted
The expected contribution for the current year corresponds to maximum payable. This is granted to single individuals with zero income and married individuals with zero family income. For everyone else, the measure is instead commensurate with the income received: in other words, the size of the allowance decreases as one’s economic availability increases. As happened for the previous social pension, also for the Social Allowance i income limits to access the measure they are quite stringent.

Requirements required
To request the 2023 social allowance First of all, some specific requirements must be respected:
- age of at least 67 years
- be Italian, EU or non-EU citizens in possession of an EU residence permit and have been continuously resident in Italy for at least 10 years
- actual residence and habitual residence in Italy
- personal income not exceeding the annual amount of the social allowance itself, while the marital income must not exceed twice the same value
How to apply for the 2023 Social Allowance
The application to obtain the 2023 Social Allowance must be forwarded to INPS, through simplified procedure made available since last January 1st. Once connected with the dedicated page on the portal and verified your identity through SPID or CIE, the electronic identity card, you must follow the guided procedure available on the site. Alternatively, the application can also be submitted by telephone by calling 803164 from a landline or 06164164 from a mobile network.
When you lose
The social security check is lost when the required requirements are no longer met: therefore if the holder of the allowance begins to receive an income higher than that required by law. For this reason every year those who receive the social allowance must send the Red form to the INPS. It is also lost if the RED is not sent by the deadline. If the check or social pension is refused, an appeal can be made to the INPS provincial committee within 90 days of receiving the refusal communication. It is not possible to request social security arrears.
