Status: 08/12/2022 11:19 p.m

Things didn’t look good for Borussia Dortmund at SC Freiburg for a long time. But then BVB turned the game in the final sprint.

Borussia Dortmund, coach Edin Terzic’s team, won 3-1 (0-1) at SC Freiburg on Friday evening (08/12/2022) and made a good start for the first time in three years with two wins in the first two games. BVB temporarily took the lead in the table.

Jokers Jamie Bynoe-Gittens (77′), Youssoufa Moukoko (84′) and Marius Wolf (88′) turned the game around in the second round, Michael Gregoritsch (35′) put the Breisgauer, who were superior before the break, in the lead. 18-year-old Bynoe-Gittens benefited from a blunder from SC goalkeeper Mark Flekken.

Schlotterbeck sees room for improvement

“It’s extremely bitter. With a bit of luck we could have scored the second goal.”said Freiburg’s Matthias Ginter: “In the end you could see Dortmund’s quality on offense.”

“Freiburg demanded everything from us, they were just better up to the 1-1“said BVB defender Nico Schlotterbeck: “There is still room for improvement, we have to defend as a team – we have brutal quality in attack.”

Scoring chances were scarce at first

In front of 34,700 spectators, a fast-paced encounter developed in which both teams looked for playful solutions. There were initially few clear chances to score.

Dortmund’s new signing Anthony Modeste initially seemed like a foreign body, but out of nowhere he suddenly failed at Flekken from the left-hand position (23′). After half an hour, the prank elf took command.

BVB goalkeeper Gregor Kobel scratched Vincenzo Grifo’s free kick out of the corner with his fingertips (34′), but then he was powerless when Gregoritsch shot the ball after Matthias Ginter put it down. A little later Gregoritsch prevented Grifo’s possible 0:2 when he got in the way of the Italian’s flick (41′).

Wolf provides stimulation

Terzic brought on Wolf for Thomas Meunier at the break. BVB now got more traction in their offensive game, Mo Dahoud (55th) hit the side netting from 25 meters. But otherwise the accuracy was still missing in the last third.

Roland Sallai (65′) tested Kobel again from the edge of the penalty area before Gregoritsch (69′) left the supposed match point completely free. With the substitution of Moukoko, Borussia then started the final offensive 20 minutes before the end.

Freiburg will go to VfB Stuttgart on Matchday 3 on Saturday (08/20/2022, 3:30 p.m.). Dortmund plays Werder Bremen on Saturday (20.08.22, 3.30 p.m.).
