Borussia first wide awake, then sleepy
In the second half, Borussia got off to a flying start. After 25 seconds, the ball was in the net of the Augsburg goal for the second time – Jonas Hofmann scored his eighth goal of the season after a cross from Ramy Bensebaini.
Gladbach then made the mistake of switching to management mode. Augsburg was allowed to combine quite undisturbed and punished the passivity of the hosts. Iago scored the goal for FCA in the 55th minute and brought excitement back into the game.

After that Gladbach found back to the offensive route and also restored the old lead. After a cross from Neuhaus, Ramy Bensebaini made it 3-1 (67th).
Unlike when the score was 2-0, Borussia managed better to maintain the result. Coach Adi Hütter’s team controlled the game and only allowed a few dangerous actions by the opponent from Augsburg.
“We lacked a bit of intensity today. We didn’t have enough sprints, not enough intensive runs, the duels and second balls weren’t on our side like they were last time, we have to work on that“, Hahn said after the game and thus provided a reason why Gladbach’s victory was no longer really in danger. Instead, Plea and Neuhaus missed the 4-1 in the 89th minute.
In the 93rd minute, Alfred Finnbogason was able to shorten the lead to 2:3 from the Augsburg perspective. However, the goal did not change the fact that Borussia also had an enormously valuable success in the table. Gladbach, in 13th place, is ahead of FCA (16th) by four points and avoids falling onto the relegation place.
