So the rap world mourns Migos rapper Takeoff

When it was learned that Kirshnik Khari Ball, better known as Takeoff, was shot dead in Houston on Tuesday (November 01), many expressed their sorrow for the deceased. The rapper was murdered at a bowling alley while playing dice with his uncle and rap partner, Quavo. Takeoff was 28 and formed hip-hop trio Migos with Quavo and his cousin Offset.

Among those who publicly expressed their grief were mainly people from the rap scene. Rapper Ja Rule wrote on Twitter: “RIP Takeoff…this crap has got to stop…sending love to friends and family”

Expressing his respect, Rick Ross wrote: “We’ve lost a young legend #Takeoff”. Label Def Jam Records said: “Our deepest condolences to the family, friends and fans of Takeoff.”

Slim Jxmmi, a rapper who forms the duo Rae Sremmurd with Swae Lee, shared a picture of Offset (pictured left) and wrote: “Rep Takeoff” and Swae Lee also shared his condolences.

In addition to many rappers, politicians are also among those mourning Takeoff. Politician Stacey Abrams wrote: “This is heartbreaking news and a tragic loss for GA and the music industry. Born and raised in Gwinnett County, Kirshnik Khari Ball has influenced hip-hop and our culture beyond measure.

My condolences go out to Takeoff’s family, friends and all those who have been inspired by his talent.” Said US Senator Raphael Warnock, “Today Georgia lost one of us. My heart goes out to Takeoff’s family, his friends, and everyone in our state and around the world who loved his music.”

Takeoff last performed at Lil Wayne’s “Lil WeezyAna Fest” in New Orleans on Saturday (October 29). There he was on stage together with Quavo after the two released their album ONLY BUILD FOR INFINITY LINKS on October 7th.

Together with Offset, the three rappers have released a total of four albums and twelve mixtapes under the Migos name.
