So many Zoetermeer residents are satisfied with their home

If there is one thing that is important, it is a nice house. Zoetermeerders know that like no other. How satisfied are Zoetermeer tenants and buyers on average?

In general, most buyers and tenants in the Netherlands are satisfied with their place, although it is striking that the percentage of homeowners who are satisfied with a home (94.6 percent) is much higher than among tenants (72.3 percent). .

Happy Zoetermeerders

Zoetermeer’s figures do and do not match the national trend. The percentage of satisfied tenants deviates considerably from the national average. In 2021, 65.3 percent of Zoetermeer tenants were satisfied with their home, compared to 69.1 percent in 2018. The percentage of satisfied homeowners in our city does follow the national trend: in 2021 this percentage was 95 percent. In 2018, this percentage was even slightly higher, namely 95.2 percent. The conclusion is therefore that owners of owner-occupied houses experience more home satisfaction than tenants.

About the numbers

These figures come from the housing survey in the Netherlands. This is a three-yearly survey among more than 47,000 Dutch people. The survey was conducted in the 31 largest municipalities in the Netherlands.

Why tenants are less satisfied

The difference between the number of satisfied tenants and homeowners is quite large. Peter Boelhouwer also notices this. He is professor of housing at TU Delft. “The main explanation is that the weakest groups are increasingly allocated to the rental sector,” he says.

More problems

According to Peter Boelhouwer, problems such as noise pollution and litter are more common among tenants and are less likely to be resolved. The latter is partly because tenants are less able to find the municipality if there is a nuisance. Do you want to report nuisance to the municipality of Zoetermeer? That can be done like this:
