Burglaries in Zoetermeer
In Zoetermeer, the number of burglaries is lower than before corona. There have been 68 burglaries in the past winter months. Last year, 106 burglaries were registered. That’s a drop of nearly 36 percent. In the period from October 2019 to March 2020, the number of burglaries in Zoetermeer stood at 97 times. Every burglary is too much, but we do see a significant drop in the numbers.
With 68 burglaries in our city, this means that there are 5.4 burglaries per 10,000 inhabitants. In The Hague, 485 burglaries (8.8 per 10,000 inhabitants) were registered in the winter months. In Rijswijk 76 (13.3 per 10,000 inhabitants) and in Wassenaar 44 burglaries (16.2 per 10,000 inhabitants).
Fewer burglaries due to lockdown
There are more burglaries in the dark months than in the summer. The thieves are especially active in December. In the past year, the number of thefts in that month was relatively limited. This is probably due to the strict lockdown that was announced in mid-December. During previous lockdowns, the number of burglaries also decreased.
