New era with Simon Dawson
For Iron Maiden and her fans, the kickoff of the tour was a special concert for another reason in addition to the discography homage. It was the band’s first show with the new drummer Simon Dawson, who replaced Nicko McBrain at the end of last year. After more than 40 years of health, he had declared his retreat from the stage. In 2023, McBrain suffered a stroke from which he has not yet completely recovered. However, he remains part of the band. Simon Dawson is not a stranger to the Iron Maiden cosmos: Before recruiting the heavy metal king class, he drummed up for British Lion, the side project by Iron Maiden bassist and founder Steve Harris.
