René van der Gijp believes that TV viewers are taking an unrelenting attitude towards Arjen Lubach, who has lost an incredible number of viewers after his switch from NPO 1 to RTL 4. “Take off your jacket.”

Arjen Lubach is no longer the big star he was until this year. The switch to RTL 4 proves that he owed his success mainly to his prominent position on the country’s most watched TV channel NPO 1. He earns a lot more money from the commercial channels, but how will this work out for him in the long term? He will never be able to keep his current salary.

Jacket taken off

Arjen’s program simply attracts too few viewers to justify such a mega salary. “That Lubach has taken off a jacket, hasn’t he?” René van der Gijp notes at the table. Today Inside.

Wilfred Genee: “Well, he has taken off two jackets. That’s nothing anymore, is it?”

Colleague René van der Gijp: “Not normal man. He went from 1.4 million to 400 thousand?”

TV authority Tina Nijkamp: “Yes, he often has between five and six linear viewers, and yesterday he had 699 thousand viewers. That was his last broadcast.”

‘Not normal’

René sympathizes with Arjen. “He did take off a jacket, man.”

Tina: “Yes, that’s right.”

René: “Not normal.”

Johan Derksen: “I still can’t like him. I don’t like the mannerism.”

René: “No, but not much has changed over the years.”

Johan: “No, but I like those two guys on Saturday evening better.”

Just Until Here

Even Tot Hier is quality TV, says Wilfred. “Just see you here. That’s good. That’s nice.”

Tina: “Yes, and you also talk about that with each other. Lubach’s biggest problem now is: it is there, it is not there, no one talks about it anymore. It no longer matters.”

Johan: “I always drive up here when Lubach is over and it’s all high school students who come out again. It’s a very young audience.”

80 thousand euros

Tina thinks that Arjen RTL 4 yields too little. “Yes, so I think he is also doing quite well online, but whether RTL 4… You also have to imagine: that is really an expensive program, about 80 thousand euros per episode with such editing and research and he has a large salary. Then you have to ask yourself: is that of any use to RTL 4?”

She continues: “I don’t think so much. They have also had a lot of trouble with it for RTL Tonight, which now starts at 10:45 p.m..”

Great mess

RTL 4 boss Peter van der Vorst is guilty of this, according to Johan. “Can we conclude that Van der Vorst has made a huge mess of it?”

Tina concludes: “Well, RTL Tonight is his biggest flop this year anyway. The fact that he put that other talk show Beau, Humberto and Renze aside, while it was going really well, was a very, very, very big mistake.”
