The use of snuff is a cause for concern in Great Britain, reports BBC.

That’s why a study is being organized in the country to investigate the use of snuff by football players. The research also wants to increase awareness of the negative health effects of snuff use.

The PFA, the association of professional football players, said in March that a growing number of players use snuff and some of them have needed help to treat their addiction.

Several top players have been photographed with snuff on their lips, which has drawn more and more attention to the product.

– The football community is very concerned about players’ use of snuff and its possible effects on their well-being, leading researcher Daniel Read said according to the BBC.

– Based on the discussions we have had with the players and their clubs, we are aware that the use of snuff has increased. With this research, we want to better understand the motivation of players to use the product and how aware they are of the risks, Read continued.

Snuff has been linked to heart problems and oral diseases.
