Snowboarder Morgan flies into the Big Air finals

Snowboarder Annika Morgan also reached the final in the Big Air competition at the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.

Two days after her 20th birthday, she finished eighth in Monday’s qualifying session in Shougang, despite a blunder on the first vault, with a score of 132.25. Morgan had already qualified for the final in slopestyle and finished eighth there.

Only the top twelve athletes will compete in the Big Air decision on Tuesday (9:30 a.m. ET/2:30 a.m. CET). Slopestyle Olympic champion Zoi Sadowski-Syn (New Zealand) won the qualification with 176.50 points ahead of the two Japanese Kokomo Murase (171.00) and Reira Iwabuchi (158.50).

The American Julia Marino, who had won silver in slopestyle, decided not to start.

From 1:30 p.m. (local time) for the men, Leon Vockensperger (Rosenheim) and Noah Vicktor (Bischofswiesen) will be competing for a medal. In slopestyle, the duo missed the final.
