At the Snowboard World Championships in Bakuriani, Annika Morgan missed a medal after two faulty runs. Surprisingly, 16-year-old Mia Brookes from Great Britain became world champion in slopestyle.
Snowboarder Annika Morgan wanted to impress with tricks and big jumps at the title fights in Bakuriani/Georgia. The Mittenwalderin only succeeded to a limited extent. The 21-year-old completely messed up the first run. The hopes rested on the second – in slopestyle the better of the two runs is counted. In the second run, Morgan did very well and impressed with difficult jumps. But shortly before the end she fell – the dream of a medal had burst. Morgan has already been on the podium this World Cup season and is one of the extended circle of favourites.
Surprisingly, 16-year-old Mia Brookes secured the world championship title. The Brit, who has only competed in three World Cup races, dethroned Zoi Sadowski Synnott from New Zealand. The Olympic champion had to settle for second place. Bronze went to Japan’s Miyabi Onitsuka.
Men’s final without German participation
The final of the best slopestylers takes place without German participation. Noah Vicktor narrowly missed the final. As twelfth in his qualifying group, the 21-year-old was only four points short of making it into the medal decider.
World Cup newcomer Moritz Breu (19) was also eliminated in the prelim. The best German slopestyler Leon Vockensperger missed the World Championships because of a broken eye socket, as did Leon Gütl and Leilani Ettel.
