Snow on the way: ‘Locally it may turn white for a while’

It could be that we wake up on Monday in a white world. Snow is coming, Wouter van Bernebeek from Weerplaza said on Saturday morning in the radio program ‘Weekend!’ on Omroep Brabant.

Before the snow arrives, we have a gray weekend ahead of us. “This Saturday will be a drizzly day,” Wouter said on the radio. “Not really inviting to go out, I think. It’s drizzling a bit and it will stay that way for the rest of the day. We won’t see the sun today. Besides, it’s not really mild. At nine o’clock in the morning it was 2 degrees. The temperature is slowly rising to about 4 degrees, but that still makes it on the cold side.”

The wind will slowly increase during the day. “That makes it feel a bit colder – especially in the afternoon.”

“Sunday will be an even worse day than Saturday.”

According to the weatherman at Weerplaza, Sunday will be an even worse day. “It is also cloudy and, especially in the morning, it rains for a long time in many places. It only becomes a bit drier during the course of Sunday afternoon. The maximum temperature is 6 degrees. After that it cools down slowly. During the day, increasingly colder air will flow over our province. This will result in a change in the weather on Sunday evening and during the night into Monday.”

Showers will then pass over the province. “And then it gets so cold that those showers could well be wintery. With hail, wet snow and perhaps some real snow here and there in the east of the province.”

“Locally it may turn white for a while.”

Wouter speaks of ‘loose’ showers. According to him, whether you can expect a winter landscape depends on where you are. “Locally it may turn white for a while, but for a short period of time. Because on Monday during the day the temperature will rise to slightly above freezing and then the snow will start to melt away.”
