Code yellow was issued for a large part of the country on Sunday due to the winter weather.
Despite the fact that more and more places in our country have been turning white since the end of the afternoon, according to the ANWB no (major) accidents have occurred. But what are the expectations for the night and Monday morning, and above all: should we prepare for a heavy Monday morning rush hour? “Motorists would do well to prepare.”
According to the KNMI, some snow will still fall in the northeast during the night from Sunday to Monday, but it will be dry elsewhere. Due to the existing snow cover and temperatures around freezing point, slippery conditions will occur in many places. Reason to be careful when you go on the road on Monday morning, says Arnoud Broekhuis, spokesperson for the ANWB.
Monday morning
The KNMI expects clouds in the morning, and an area of (wet) snow will move into the country from the southwest. “It is expected that we will have to deal with a somewhat busier morning rush hour,” said Broekhuis. “It is probably not the case that people will have to plow through the snow tomorrow morning, but nevertheless motorists would do well to adjust their driving behavior because of the slippery conditions,” he said.
According to the KNMI, it will be cloudy on Monday afternoon and it may still snow in the north. In the south the snow turns into rain. The maximum temperature there is around freezing point, in the south at 3 degrees.
