“That was in 2010,” Wouda reflects. Due to the harsh conditions, the KNMI then issued a weather warning code red. “Due to snow dunes, the access roads were not or less easily accessible at the time. This means that emergency services cannot respond quickly and adequately.”
Safety of participants and volunteers
“As an organization, we must also listen when a code red is issued. Not only do we want to guarantee safety for the participants, this also applies to the large number of volunteers.” Wouda says that about 500 volunteers will help this weekend.
“There is currently no code red. Starting tomorrow, our own weatherman will provide updates with local expectations. We will use this information to enter into discussions with the municipality of Bergen, the Red Cross and dune manager PWN.”
