On Monday (November 14), the Songwriters Hall of Fame announced all nominees for the 54th Awards Gala on June 15, 2023 in New York. Among them was the rapper Snoop Dogg, who was nominated along with artists such as Patti Smith, REM, Sade, Gloria Estefan, Bryan Adams, Steve Winwood and many more. If Snoop Dogg were inducted, he would join hip-hop greats like Jay-Z, Missy Elliot, Pharrell Williams and Jermaine Dupri in the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
In the announcement It said selected members have until December 28 to vote on three nominees each in the Performing Artist and Non-Performing Artist categories. Artists are selected for their “remarkable catalog” of songs and there must be 20 years between the first significant commercial song and potential induction into the Hall of Fame. Their goal is to honor the work and life of composers and songwriters, write those responsible for the “Songwriters Hall of Fame”.
Description of Calvin Broadus Jr., Snoop Dogg’s real name, includes the following: “Broadus’ prominent vocals on Dr. Dre’s iconic 1992 album THE CHRONIC fueled his rise to fame, leading to that his debut album DOGGYSTYLE in 1993 became the first album ever to hit #1 on the Billboard 200 chart, as well as #1 on the Popular Albums chart and the Top R&B /Hip-Hop Albums chart. […] Critics said the album proved that rappers can reinvent themselves. It expanded the vocabulary of rap, changed hip-hop fashion and helped introduce the G-Funk hip-hop genre to a new generation. Praised for his tasteful, melodic rhymes and effective use of vocabulary he kept ‘simple’, Broadus popularized the use of ‘izzle-speak’, particularly in the pop and hip-hop music industries.”
The rapper recently announced that a film about his life is being planned. Snoop Dogg said: “I’ve waited a long time to get this project off the ground because I wanted to choose the right director, the perfect screenwriter and the best film company to work with and carry the legacy I have on the try to portray on canvas and understand the memory I want to leave behind.”
