Snooker player René van Rijsbergen cannot match championship record

For René van Rijsbergen, the NK Snooker in Zaandam turned out to be a disappointment. The snooker player from Breda was eliminated in the semifinals on Sunday. As a result, he was unable to equalize with Raymon Fabrie who became Dutch champion six times.

Van Rijsbergen remains stuck on five titles for the time being. Probably even more disappointing is missing out on the World Cup and the European Championship for amateurs. With the achievement of the Dutch National Championships, the way there would be open.

But the snooker player from Breda was, against expectations, dethroned as reigning champion by Mario Wehrman. That happened in front of an almost empty stand. Unlike England, snooker in the Netherlands remains a sport on the margins. Where in England the prize money during the national championship rises to more than one hundred thousand euros, the champion of the Netherlands barely collects 500 euros.
