Snipes builds new logistics center in Bedburg

With the construction of a new service and logistics center in the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Bedburg, the retail chain Snipes wants to create the necessary infrastructure for its further expansion. The planned facility is “one and a half times the size of the company’s existing location” and will “be able to trade twice the volume with the help of state-of-the-art processes,” Snipes explained on Wednesday.

After completion, which should take place in about three years, the retailer wants to supply all European branches and handle its online business from Bedburg. However, Snipes will continue to use the existing logistics location in Wesseling.

The project represents “an essential investment in the future” and is “at the same time the largest logistics investment ever made by the sneaker and streetwear retailer,” the company explained. However, the parties involved had “agreed not to disclose” the specific amount of the investment.

Tim Spickenbom, Snipes’ chief financial officer, justified the location decision. “As a Cologne-based company, we are very consciously making this investment in our home region and want to contribute to the structural change of the former lignite site. The convenient location in Bedburg also influenced our decision,” he said in a statement. “It is important to us to further strengthen the region. We are therefore planning to award important follow-up orders locally in the trades or in the catering trade.”

According to the company, the new building will “create around 600 jobs with different qualification levels in the region”. A date for the start of construction has not yet been set.
