Lautaro Martínez had not scored eight games in a row, but the 24-year-old attacker from Argentina was on a roll tonight. He opened the score halfway through the first half and made it 2-0 five minutes before half time. Ten minutes after the break, Martínez also made his third goal of the evening on a pass from Edin Džeko.

The 35-year-old striker from Bosnia then scored twice himself. He scored in the 64th minute on a pass from left back Robin Gosens, who had come on the field three minutes earlier. Denzel Dumfries then gave the 5-0 assist in the 69th minute.

Inter started the game as number three in Serie A, but are now back in the lead with 58 points after 27 matches. This gives Inter one point more than Napoli and AC Milan, who are also on 27 games played. The two pursuers will face each other on Sunday evening (8:45 p.m.) in the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in Naples.

Sneijder back in San Siro after nine years

Before the competition, 37-year-old Wesley Sneijder was put in the spotlight. He joined Marco Materazzi, Samuel Eto’o and Gianluca Pagliuca after they were recently inducted into the Inter Hall of Fame. Sneijder played for the club from Milan from the summer of 2009 to January 2013. In his first season, Inter won the Serie A, Coppa Italia and Champions League, but after the departure of Jose Mourinho, Inter and Sneijder quickly deteriorated. Yet in his second season with Inter, Sneijder still won the World Cup for clubs, the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa.

In 116 appearances for Inter, Sneijder scored 22 times and provided 35 assists. He left for Galatasaray in January 2013 for €7.5 million, after Inter had bought him from Real Madrid three and a half years earlier for €15 million. “This is my first time back in San Siro,” he told Sky Sport Italia. ,,It is awesome. I have seen many people that I had not seen in a long time. I’m happy to be here and the Hall of Fame award is just a bonus.”

Sneijder was naturally asked about his favorite memories of his time in Milan, where he had already won the hearts of the fans and his teammates within weeks. ,,What we had was a team, a real team and we realized that you don’t get very far with just individuals. Mourinho called me a thousand times to say he had a very strong and close-knit team, but didn’t have a number 10. That’s what I eventually became and I’m proud of that,” said Sneijder, who made his debut in the Derby della Madonnina against AC Milan (0-4 win) on August 29, 2009.

,,I immediately felt confidence here, I realized that the team was a unity and that made the difference. The club has had difficult years after that, but is now back where it should be. The most important thing is the mentality of the team, which won the Scudetto last season and can win the league title again this year. You can tell they are a team. I just want to tell the Inter fans that I still feel at home here and that the Inter fans are the best in the world.”
