SNAKES ON MONDAY. The Eurovision Song Contest was politically at least as relevant as the ideas we are treated to in abundance | Opinion

Last weekend not only brought us the bouquet of sunbeams we craved for so long. We also saw how Belgian heat flooded the Eurovision stage. Belgium showed its best side with Gustaph: cheerful, professional and inclusive. The fun that splashed off the stage is why I sometimes feel like reading my newspaper from back to front. The last pages often warm us with pleasure and cheerfulness, while the first – often political – pages today are doom and gloom. This weekend, however, the Eurovision Song Contest was at least as politically relevant as the ideas, the bickering and the swollen swagger that we are treated to in abundance on the political scene.
