Snake bite leads German police to farm with 110 snakes | Abroad

Police in Germany found more than 110 dangerous snakes on Sunday at a farm in Salzgitter, near Hanover. The police tracked down the animals after the owner reported to the hospital with a poisonous snake bite.

The 35-year-old woman drove to a hospital in Salzgitter early Sunday morning and told doctors present that one of her rattlesnakes had bitten her finger. As the woman’s condition deteriorated rapidly and authorities hastily ordered an antidote from a specialized institute in Hamburg, police visited the farm in central Germany and found dozens of snakes there.

In a statement, police said specialists determined the snake collection included both venomous and non-venomous specimens, which were not housed in appropriate terrariums. The reptiles have all been confiscated.
