On all Frisian Wadden Islands, a smoking and heating ban soon applies during dry periods. On Ameland, for example, smoking (and burning) in nature is no longer allowed between 1 May and 15 September. However, this prohibition does not apply to the beach, provided you keep a distance of at least 30 meters from the dunes. This regulation also applies on Schiermonnikoog in the dunes, between 1 April and 1 October.
