We begin by sawing the ice, then a ladder is positioned to prepare for the immersion, the wood is collected and the fire is fed until the environment is saturated with heat and smoke: the sauna ritual for the Võro community of south-eastern Estonia is purification and storytelling.
And the filmmaker who won the director prize at the last Sundance Festival transfers her experience into her debut film. I am bodies and voices of women who talk about sex, motherhood, illness, joy, pain and body-shaming (fortunately without calling it that). An intimate and experiential film.
