The NK Eel Smoking was held today for the 28th time in Kortenhoef. “I participate because we are good at this. I can’t play billiards, but I can smoke a nice fish.”
Kortenhoef has traditionally been a place where many eels were caught, which is also the reason why the Dutch Championships are specifically organized there. Eel smokers come here from all over the country to show their best side.
Eel has been on the red list of endangered fish species for some time, but enthusiasts need not worry about this for these championships: the eel that is smoked comes from the farm.
