Smash Mouth: That’s why ex-singer Steve Harwell is said to be dying

Doctors say he has not more than a week to live.

Steve Harwell, the former singer of the alternative band Smash Mouth, is said to have not long to live. Allegedly, family members have already said goodbye to the 56-year-old. Harwell’s heavy alcohol and drug abuse are the reason for his condition.

Harwell had been struggling with his alcohol and drug addiction for a long time. At a concert in 2021, according to “TMZ”, the singer also freaked out on stage and screamed at the audience. Before that, he already seemed heavily intoxicated and slurred throughout the entire gig. Shortly thereafter, Harwell left the band and retired from the music world.

Harwell received medical treatment several times for cirrhosis of the liver. Heart disease, heart failure and a disorder in the singer’s brain were also causes for concern. Now his condition is so critical that doctors have not given him more than a week to live. Harwell is currently at home.

In the early 2000s, the band Smash Mouth had a hit with “All Star.” The song reached number one on the US Billboard chart and has been featured in films such as Shrek (2001). There was even a Broadway musical adaptation of All Star in 2019.
